October Goals

October-2019-Mind-Body-Soul-Goals

Hi friends, happy Monday! Like I mentioned in my post last night, it truly does feel cathartic to sit down and write some content to share with you. I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I started writing again.

Today, I’m sharing what I’m prioritizing this month in my monthly goals post. Did you realize that there are less than 90 days left not just in this year, but also in this DECADE? Ahhhhhhh. Let’s go…

Mind: Pay more attention to my body’s cues that it gives me.

Body: Start lifting weights again.

Soul: Enjoy Fall while it lasts.

Mind Goal

Do you ever feel like you don’t know what’s going on with yourself? Recently, I’ve kind of had my head in the clouds and have simply been going through the motions of life. When I was in Austin a couple of weeks ago for work, I was riding a scooter and didn’t see a (semi-hidden) speed bump, and I hit it going kinda fast, and I tell ya, I banged up my left knee pretttty good. Even 4-5 days afterward, my knee was still tender and all sorts of different shades of green, blue, purple, etc. So what did I decide to go and do? A Peloton ride. I was tired of sitting still, but I could’ve done an upper body workout only and not aggravated my knee, but I didn’t. And my knee hated me the next day. I wanted to be ready to work out how I usually do, but my body wasn’t ready to do that. Another kind of cue that my body gives me is feeling tired (everyone gets that, right?). I want to start prioritizing actually listening to my body’s rhythm and winding down earlier instead of sneaking another episode in at night. Side note: Cesar and I just finished Designated Survivor so we don’t have a show to binge right now….could be the perfect time to start this.

A variety of other examples exist of me ignoring the cues that my body’s giving me, and I want to try to be more present with myself this month.

Body Goal

Having become obsessed with Peloton workouts, I do a small bit of light weight lifting for arms during those workouts, but I used to lift more often and heavier weight (not terribly heavy, but more than 1-3 pounds like in Peloton). SO, this month I want to solely lift weights at least once a week (starting small here) without doing a Peloton ride coupled with that workout.

In full vulnerability mode, I’ve actually gained 10 pounds since moving from NYC to Denver – it’s blown my mind. My pants are tight, and I haaaate it. How did it happen? I job searched at home for 4.5 months, and that was a big contributor, but I also haven’t been doing group fitness classes other than Peloton rides, and I’ve been eating my way through Denver (and every city I’ve visited for work trips) sooo…yeah. I’m looking to change up my workout routine, be more mindful of what I’m eating, and see what happens.

Soul Goal

Y’all, Fall in CO is TO DIE FOR. Like, breathtaking, gorgeous, unbelievable. Of course, Fall seems to be the season that is here and gone in the blink of an eye. Therefore, I want to truly enjoy this season! Cesar and I took Bella to Cheesman Park last weekend and played frisbee for a while (and watched Bae try to catch dozens of squirrels – she couldn’t, she was tied around a tree, ha!), we went camping a few weeks ago, I’m going to see Vampire Weekend at RedRocks this week, and I need to add a few more fall adventures to my calendar before it’s winter (PS: right now, we have SNOW in the forecast for Thursday – #yikes).

That’s what’s getting prioritized in my neck of the woods, what about you?

Cheers,
xx Marah Elizabeth
