November Goals

Happy weekend, loves. It is soo freezing and WINDY here. I actually blow dried and straightened my hair today for the first time in…over a year! I just took the pup out, and my beautifully straightened hair flew EVERYWHERE. lol gonna need a beanie on my head when I go back outside. Today’s post is all about the goals – goals, goals, goals, goals, goals.

October Goals in Review

Mind: Get back into a morning and evening routine by creating a morning and evening routine checklist
Body: Withhold from eating candy out of the candy jar at work
Soul:  Be consistent with our new puppy in terms of routines + training

In terms of my October goals, I’m still actively working on my morning and evening routines. Since getting our puppy, Bella, my morning routine has changed so much (I just posted about this and my self-care routine yesterday – you can find that post here). In the morning, the things on my checklist that I always want to do include stretching, taking out the pup, doing 20 squats (in the morning and at night), drinking a full glass of water, taking a multi-vitamin, and meditating on my commute into work. I’m also going to try out coconut oil pulling a couple days a week – doing it while I shower – in order to try to naturally whiten my teeth. We’ll see how that goes!

Evenings are harder to have a checklist for because my evenings vary more so than my mornings. Sometimes I go to the gym, other times I don’t. Sometimes I cook during the weekend so i don’t have to cook during the week, and other times I don’t meal prep, so it’s been harder for me to stick to a daily checklist, so it’s still a work-in-progress.

Regarding my other two October goals, I have to admit that I did a pretty solid job of staying away from the candy jar at work, and I think I’ll just continue to do that. Lastly, having a puppy is a ton of work, which I knew it was, and getting into a set routine and training her has been tough. Sometimes she needs to go out every 2 hours, and other times she’s good for like 4 hours – honestly, it’s been a bit unpredictable. We’ve hired a dog walker to take her out in the afternoon on days that neither Cesar or myself can work from home. I usually work from home one day a week, and so does Cesar, so we’ve been using the dog walker about three days a week. Training has not been going well. Bella knows how to sit and that’s about it. She such a puller on the leash, it’s insane. I’ve been bringing a small baggy of her kibble to reward her when she does walk right, which is what I’ve watched professional dog trainers on YouTube say to do. I also just enrolled in this free 30-day dog training course (I haven’t begun), and I’m hoping that Bella improves her training abilities from that. We’re totally open to getting her into some training classes if our training skills are lackluster.

November Goals

Mind: Say this mantra every day: “Action conquers fear.”
Body: Incorporate doing 20 squats in the morning and 20 more squats in the evening.
Soul: Practice showing thanks and appreciation to the wonderful people in my life.

I’ve been experiencing this sensation of a fear of beginning something that I really want to do, and it’s felt so paralyzing like I’m too afraid to start because I don’t want to fail. I know that’s not a healthy perspective to have, I know that failing is part of the learning process, so I’m really hoping to get through this block by having this personal mantra to help me through it. Also, I’m turning 30 three months from today (ahhhhhhh!), and I want to have the nicest booty that I’ve ever had rolling into a new decade (and who doesn’t want that?!), so chunking 2 sets of 10 in the morning and in the evening (on top of the other workouts I do) seems like a very manageable first step towards booty heaven. Every November, I enjoy taking a step back and actually taking the time – even if it’s just seconds – to show some appreciation and thanks to everyone supporting me and loving me in this life. I get so caught up in the day-to-day that I take a lot of little things for granted, and I want to do better about being present by sharing my appreciations and thanks with those who deserve it.

Those are my November mind-body-soul goals. Do they resonate with you? What goals are you working on right now?

xx Marah Elizabeth
