June Goals

Hey everyone,

Before I dive into my first monthly goals post in months, I wanted to take the time to say this:

To my people of color friends, family, and readers, I want you to know that I am sorry and also angry about the gross systemic racism that runs rampant in the United States.

Of course, I know that because of the color of my skin I’ll never fully understand what you’ve endured and continue to endure on a daily basis. Although I know it’s not your responsibility to educate me, if you feel compelled to share resources with me, I’ll gladly dive into them.

As a #blacklivesmatter ally, I encourage my fellow white readers to take the time to do something – there are a variety of actions you can take to be a part of this movement. Show your solidarity and support by listening, learning, and acting (I’m on this journey with you, too).

Ways to Engage

It’s been a while since I shared a goals post (since November 2019 to be exact). At the end of last year, I realized that writing wasn’t bringing me the joy that it used to so I knew going into the new year that I was intentionally going to pull back from writing until I felt the call to do more of it again. I believe that being able to step away from something to breathe and explore other hobbies and activities is healthy, and that’s exactly what I did.

We moved into our first home in mid-January, and I’ve been so preoccupied with making it feel like a home that it’s taken most of my time and energy, and I’ve loved every second of the process.

With that in mind, today I’m excited to dive into an update on my 2020 mind-body-soul goals with you!

2020 Mind-Body-Soul Goals

  • Mind: Be consistent with whatever I commit to myself.
  • Body: Establish a weekly fitness and wellness routine.
  • Soul: Learn homemaker skills.

My mind and body goals pair well together, so I’m going to chat about them as a pair. When quarantine started back in March, Cesar and I started the #75Hard Challenge (read more about the challenge here), and now we’re on day 72 (near the finish line!). Every day, we do a handful of tasks that have provided so much consistency throughout quarantine that I’ll be forever grateful for this challenge because it’s helped me create the consistency that I have always craved but never truly had before due to lack of discipline and mental toughness. Having a routine that I don’t have to think about because by now it’s a habit has been a real gamechanger.

I’m eating homemade, wholesome meals and working out every day. Mentally, I feel strong and proud of myself more than ever before. I feel the same way physically, too! I know everyone has their own life circumstances going on right now, but quarantine has been good to me, and for that I’m grateful.

In terms of my homemaker skills, I’ve been engrossed in getting the house how we want it, and that has come with creating a home maintenance schedule via a Google calendar, doing some DIY home decor projects, getting the furnace and AC tuned up, and digging up a TON of dandelions in our backyard…like, dandelions are now a dirty word in this house. What was once a sweet yellow, harmless flower is now the devil. Oh, we also have a gardener snake showing up in our backyard who loves basking in the sun out there, and it’s driving our dog crazy. Ha! Cesar has emptied the gutters, sprayed the house for bugs, taken apart our outside AC unit to clean it – he’s killing the homeowner’s homemaking game!

That’s what working towards my goals looks like over here, and I’m sticking with these mind-body-soul goals for the entire year.  What are your current goals, and how have they been impacted by being quarantined? Share in the comments below.

My best,

xx Marah Elizabeth
