Hello from CO!

Happy Sunday! And I know it’s been a LONG time since I posted. My move from NYC to Denver went pretty smoothly, however, y’all know, the process of getting settled in and feeling “at home” takes so. much. time, energy, and resources. I’ve actually been enjoying the process a lot, which is one reason why you haven’t heard from me in a bit. I’m itching to get back into blogger mode and excited to chat today.

Soo…life updates.

Cesar and I moved to the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Denver, and we are lovinggg it. We live across the street from the gorgeous Governor’s Mansion, adjacent to Governor’s Park, and we’ve been taking Bella over there to play fetch with her, and it’s simply gorgeous. The neighborhood is one of the most charming ones in Denver, and there’s so many good places for coffee, food, shopping, and nearby parks. So far, I’m loving City ‘O City and Hudson Hill coffee shops. I’ve tried Bones, Vespar Lounge, enjoyed pizza and drinks at LowDown Brewery, and had brunch at Shells and Sauce.  Of course, I haven’t been in blogging mode so the minute I have gotten food, it’s been eaten and not photographed lolol

Another huge perk of moving back to Denver is that my best friend, Heather lives here! A couple weeks ago, Heather had Spring Break, and we spent a morning together where she took photos of me (why is getting your photo taken so awkward, y’all?!) around my apartment building and in Governor’s Park. She’s practicing photography with her amazing new camera, and I have challenged myself to post more of myself on the blog/social media, so it truly was a win-win for us both. I treated her to lunch afterwards, and we spent some time oogling over all kinds of plants at City Floral in Stapleton. I’m hoping we can make taking photos and enjoying lunch together a recurring girl date.

Another big reason why I have been MIA is because I am in the process of job searching – I had to quit my job in NYC to move to Denver. On top of that, I’m trying to get a more creative role than what I’ve had in the past, so pivoting into searching for different kinds of roles has taken a lot of resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn re-working. Professionally, I have had the most success through job referrals, so I have a goal of attending 1-2 events a week (I’ve found them on Meetup, Nextdoor, and Eventbrite) where I can network, meet new people, share my story and business card with people I meet, and hopefully meet people who know of opportunities in the marketing/communications realm of business. I met a lovely group of girls who live in my neighborhood or very close to it through a post on Nextdoor, so if you haven’t checked that resource out yet and you’re interested in connecting with neighbors, I highly encourage you to check it out!

A few months ago, I bought an Adobe Creative Suite online course that ends in a certification, and I’ve been working through the Photoshop course and am about to start the Illustrator course. I am starting to build a portfolio for freelancing purposes (think: all things marketing related – branding, website development, logo design, etc.). It’s so fun to learn new software programs and be able to utilize them to show your creative skillsets, I am really enjoying the class.

This month, our pup turns 1 and Cesar turns 30 (!). We’re having 5 friends from Arizona come out to help celebrate, and a few of them are also April babies, so it should be a great time for everyone.

Happy to be back! If you have any Colorado recs or job search resources/tips, send ’em my way!

xx Marah Elizabeth
