Trying Out a ‘Get Your Shit Together’ Day for the First Time

Mundane tasks, oh how I despise thee. And frankly, I mostly try to avoid thee…ha! Raise your hand if you also run in the opposite direction when menial tasks pop up and need taken care of?

My friend Coley over at Life Goals Mag picked up the GYST Day idea from YouTuber Kalyn Nicholson (check out both LGM and Kalyn – love them both!). The idea behind having a “get your sh*t together” day is to dedicate time to 1) get tasks done that usually get neglected throughout the week and 2) complete tasks that will set you up well for the next week (think: grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, cleaning, other errands, and self-care).

Read Coley’s general GYST day here.  The 3 buckets of tasks to divvy up for your day include:

  1. Maintain: Complete the tasks that require maintenance.
  2. Prep: Get prepared for the week ahead.
  3. Self-Care: Show extra love to yourself.

My GYST list for today

Maintain

  • Fold up blankets and put them away
  • Put away clean clothes
  • Clean out the refrigerator
  • Take out the recycling
  • Dust the apartment
  • Change my toothbrush head
  • Check retirement account to see if my rollover has happened yet
  • Wash bedclothes
  • Disinfect iPhone, headphones, and Macbook

Prep

  • Plan date with Cesar for next weekend
  • Decide on what to cook for next week
  • Order and receive groceries via Shipt
  • Cook 2 meals
  • Find a couple of outfit options for upcoming fall family photos
  • Pick out an outfit for work tomorrow

Self-Care

  • Take a shot of apple cider vinegar
  • Track food that I eat on MyFitnessPal (I’m working on being more mindful about what I eat)
  • Stretch for 15 minutes
  • Lift weights for 30 minutes
  • Take Bella on a nice, long walk (the weather is supposed to be in the mid-60s today)
  • Write in my one line a day journal
  • Put on a face mask
  • Read for 30 minutes before bed

So that’s what I’m working from today, what would be on your own list for a GYST day? Share in the comments below.
