Camp Bae Day Shenanigans

If I were to tell you that I went to camp (like sleep-away camp) last weekend, would you believe me? Cause I did! I’ve been One of the FB groups that I’m in put on this event, and I remember the first time I saw the weekend-long event being promoted and an instant case of nostalgia came over me for my summer camp days when I was in elementary school. The purpose of the weekend at camp was to take a step away from our normal lives and meet new friends – two things that are what I call chicken soup for the soul. So I bought a ticket.

I had a mix of emotions leading up to camp because originally, I was going to catch a ride with the one person who I knew was going, but then she had a somewhat last-minute change of plans, so I had to go alone (a lot of gals went alone – kind of the point of the weekend to make new friends). It had been a pretty emotionally draining week leading up to camp, so I was especially looking forward to getting out of the house and out into nature for some peace of mind.

Just getting to camp felt like an accomplishment because I hate driving lol and it was quite the windy, nerve-wracking kind of drive. Once I was at camp, my cell service was zilch, nada, nothing. NONEXISTANT. So that was quite shocking, I didn’t expect to have absolutely no servious whatsoever all weekend. I was required to unplug.

Everyone stayed in like camp lodges/cabins, and I was SO thankful that the one I was in had a bathroom attached (also shocked that not all of them did). Camp Counselor Megan was our cabin’s camp counselor, and she was the absolute BEST. She brought us each a little bag full of goodies for the weekend, decorated our cabin, had the greatest attitude – truly a fab leader. And the gals I bunked with! Omigoodness, we shared some cases of seltzers and became fast friends.

From Friday night smores to a jam-packed Saturday full of activities – axe throwing, archery, zip lining to creating eucalyptus and flower shower bundles, hanging out at the lake (getting rescued by Camp Counselor Meg as I floated away on the giant flamingo floaty), to getting dolled up for 90s prom on Saturday night, the gals from my cabin hung out and enjoyed a weekend in the mountains together and got to know each other along the way. Plus, we had so. many. laughs. and you know that laughing is the best medicine, y’all.

By Sunday morning, I was relieved to get some lumbar support during the drive home because my back was killlllling me from sleeping on a 2-inch mattress that sat on top of a piece of plywood LOL gahhh getting older probz.

All in all, camp was a great adventure, and I’m so glad I went and opened up to complete strangers and in that vulnerability, I got to make some new friends who I’m excited to see soon for brunch. 🙂 A huge shout out and thanks to Colorado Girl Gang and Bad Bettie Project for putting on this event.

What’s the most childlike activity you’ve done as an adult? I think this weekend takes the cake for me.
