10 Little Things I Love About My Momma

Happy, happy Tuesday! I hope y’all are crushing this week so far. I’m so incredibly happy writing this post right now because it’s about my MOM, and today is her birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOMMA! Love you so much. Do you remember that phase of life when you kind of couldn’t stand your mom? I don’t. For real, I’ve loved and pretty much been obsessed with my momma forever.

While there are literally a million reasons why I love my momma so much, today I’m going to highlight 10 little things that I love about her. Read on to find out why…

10 Little Things I Love About My Momma

  1. She is unequivocally herself. What you see is what you get with my momma. She loves what she loves (Calverts, the Walking Dead, talking on the phone, and BOOTS – lots of boots) and hates what she hates (the heat, cleaning, lies).
  2. She lives by her own standards. Not a day has past where I’ve seen my momma try to fit in based off of someone else’s expectations, which is a trait I really look up to her for.
  3. Her contagious laugh. I swear, sometimes I call my momma just to hear her laugh. She genuinely cracks up so easily, it makes me laugh just watching/hearing her laugh. I love it!
  4. She’s my biggest cheerleader. Anytime I try something new, my mom is the first one to offer her support and best wishes. She truly cares deeply about my happiness and the happiness of all of her loved ones.
  5. Time flies when we’re together. Because I live and work in the NYC area, I don’t see her as much as I want to (thank god for Facetime), but when we are together, I love spending time with my momma. We can chat for the longest time, catching each other up on life, laughing at old memories, almost always bringing up something embarrassing she did to me and my sister’s hair growing up. Whenever we’re visiting each other, it feels like a blink of an eye, and times up.
  6. Her little dance sessions. Yes, you read that right. My sister and I sometimes try to catch them on video (for blackmail purposes, of course). My momma likes to blast some of her favorite music – usually from musicians like Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain, the Eagles, the Bee Gees – and get down with the get down, if ya know what I mean.
  7. Everything she cooks is delicious. Now, growing up, we would tease her that the food she made wasn’t as good as grandma’s, but it’s actually pretty amazing stuff. When I go home, to say that I get spoiled is an understatement. My momma cooks up any and everything that I want, pretty much at the drop of a hat. Usually, my only major requests are for breakfast – we love breakfast in our household! French toast or chocolate chip pancakes are usually asked for or an egg scramble with fried potatoes.
  8. She’s the best caretaker in the game. Anytime I’m sick, I want my momma. To this day, even in my late 20s, I wish she was here to take care of me when I don’t feel good. She’s just really good at it. She’s seriously like a nurse practitioner (or has memorized ALL of WebMD, I wouldn’t be surprised) and knows the symptoms and remedies for every illness that’s ever fallen on me. My momma will spoon feed me medicine, leave me alone as much as needed, make me chicken noodle soup and bring me Sprite, and do all the important things that make being sick even slightly more comfortable.
  9. The way she starts and wraps up a phone call. Seriously, I have this memorized and engrained in my brain. Every time we talk, she starts off by saying “Hello, Lizzybet.” because that’s what she calls me (only she does!), and when we’re ending a call, she says, “Okay, love you, too, buh-byeee.” I look forward to it every single time.
  10. She loves the hardest. Trying to describe a feeling usually puts me at a loss for words, but what I’m trying to get at is that nurturing and unconditional love is really the essence of who my mom is. She’s the biggest momma bear, and it’s totally her nature to be protective and love hard. I truly cherish our relationship because it’s a rare gem not everyone has, and I know how fortunate I am to have it.

I have sooo many more little things whirling around my head right now, but I’ll save them for another special day. Momma, I hope you enjoyed reading this post. You deserve to have the perfect day today, whatever that looks and feels like for you. I can’t wait to see you in a couple of weeks for Thanksgiving!
